Last year I compared the number of US patents granted in 2024 that list at least one Israeli inventor to the number granted that list at least one inventor from the following countries: Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Comoros, Djibouti, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Somali, Sudan, Syria, Tunisia, UAE, and Yemen. That’s all the Arab countries, plus a few others. All Moslem. The collective population of these countries is about 900 million, versus a population of about 10 million for Israel.
Searching the USPTO database, and limiting the search to B1 or B2 patents (viz. utility patents, excluding design “patents”), I found that in 2025 the numbers were 5497 utility patents that list at least one Israeli inventor, and 2224 utility patents that list at least one inventor from all those other countries combined. Assuming a population of 10 million for Israel and 900 million for the group of countries, that’s 549 US patents per million people for Israel, versus 2.47 patents per million people for the group of other countries, or more than 220 US patents for Israelis to every US patent for the group of countries.
